Rustins Yacht Varnish2.5 Litres (Gloss & Satin)

Rustins Yacht Varnish is specially formulated from tung oil to give maximum protection and durability to marine and other external woodwork.

The varnish has excellent adhesion and will not flake or peel when correctly applied, making it ideal for exterior doors and window frames. 

Yacht varnish has good resistance to rain, sunlight, frost, salt and chemically polluted atmospheres. It also has a high degree of flexibility, giving enhanced protection to cracking, checking and loss of adhesion. 

During preparation, surfaces to be varnished must be dry, clean, smooth and free from dust, oil, grease and other contaminants. Cracks can be filled with Rustins Wood Filler. If the wood is open grained, Rustins Grain filler may be used before varnishing.

Apply by brush. The first coat on new wood should be thinned with 25 per cent white spirit and applied with a good quality brush.

Three coats are recommended, but porous end-grain or wood that is badly weathered may need further applications.

Drying time is around 12 hours, depending on temperature and humidity. Additional coats can be applied after 12 hours, depending conditions. Do not use below 10°C or in conditions of high humidity.

Coverage is 13 sq. metres per litre per coat.

Maintenance: When re-coating is necessary, clean down the surface with a mild detergent and water and lightly sand before coating
Compatibility: May be applied over old existing coating if these are in good condition and rubbed down to provide a key. Coatings not in good condition should be removed with Rustins Strypit Paint and Varnish Stripper. If applying over wood preservatives test on a small area to ensure the varnish dries and adheres well. Cannot be applied over Creosote
Settlement: STIR WELL BEFORE USE
Shelf-life/Storage: Many years if stored in cool dry conditions with the lid tightly closed
